Help parents and kids boost reading, writing, and mathematics skills together.
Make sure your child gets plenty of exercise and sleep. Plan fun activities including swimming, riding bicycles, or playing outside. Also, establish a nightly bedtime routine of relaxing activities such as a warm shower/bath or reading a story. Set a reading time for the entire family 3 to 4 days a week. Choose a book at a comfortable reading level for your child and take turns reading aloud. Talk about what you just read and encourage your child to share details about the book. Designate an area for writing to help your child see it as an important activity. Encourage them to keep a daily journal, write emails or letters, and create cards (birthday or thank you) for friends and family. Help your child practice counting, compare different objects, tell time, or cook. Utilize everyday situations to practice and learn like counting steps, organizing toys smallest to biggest, timing activities, or measuring ingredients.
